چکیده

RF sputtered SnO2 thin films (90 nm thick) loaded with clusters of nanoscale (8 nm) metal catalysts (Pt, Ag, Ni, Pb, Al, Pd) are investigated for LPG detection. SnO2 film loaded with Pt catalyst clusters exhibits enhanced response (~ 7.5×10) to 200 ppm of LPG at a relatively low operating temperature (185C) with a fast response time of 100s. Variation of thickness of Pt clusters in the nanoscale range (2 to 20 nm) is seen to significantly influence the sensor response characteristics. Enhanced performance is observed for SnO2 thin films loaded with 10 nm thick platinum clusters that exhibited a high response (~ 5 x 10) at an operating temperature, of 220C. Preliminary results indicate the potential application of prepared sensor structure of Pt clusters (10nm)/SnO2 (90 nm)/IDE/glass substrate for efficient detection of LPG at relatively low temperature.

Nanocrystalline SnO2:F Thin Films for Liquid Petroleum Gas Sensors

This paper reports the improvement in the sensing performance of nanocrystalline SnO(2)-based liquid petroleum gas (LPG) sensors by doping with fluorine (F). Un-doped and F-doped tin oxide films were prepared on glass substrates by the dip-coating technique using a layer-by-layer deposition cycle (alternating between dip-coating a thin layer followed by a drying in air after each new layer). Th...

A Room Temperature H2 Sensor Fabricated Using High Performance Pt-Loaded SnO2 Nanoparticles

Highly sensitive H2 gas sensors were prepared using pure and Pt-loaded SnO2 nanoparticles. Thick film sensors (~35 μm) were fabricated that showed a highly porous interconnected structure made of high density small grained nanoparticles. Using Pt as catalyst improved sensor response and reduced the operating temperature for achieving high sensitivity because of the negative temperature coeffici...

Improving Gas Sensing Properties of Tin Oxide Nanowires Palladium-Coated Using a Low Cost Technique

Thin films of SnO2 nanowires were successfully prepared by using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process on quartz substrates. Afterwards, a thin  layer of palladium (Pd) as a catalyst was coated on top of nanowires. For the deposition of Pd, a simple and low cost technique of spray pyrolysis was employed, which caused an intensive enhancement on the sensing response of fabricated sensors...

Gas Sensing Properties of SnO2 Thin Films Modified by Ag Nanoclusters Synthesized by SILD Method

The effect of SnO2 surface modification by Ag nanoclusters, synthesized by SILD method, on the operating characteristics of thin film gas sensors was studied and models for the promotional role of Ag additives were discussed. It was found that mentioned above approach can be used for improvement both the sensitivity and the rate of response of the SnO2-based gas sensors to CO and H2. At the sam...

Nanoparticle cluster gas sensor: Pt activated SnO2 nanoparticles for NH3 detection with ultrahigh sensitivity.

Pt activated SnO2 nanoparticle clusters were synthesized by a simple solvothermal method. The structure, morphology, chemical state and specific surface area were analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and N2-sorption studies, respectively. The SnO2 nanoparticle cluster matrix consists of tens of thousands of Sn...
